Speaker Repair Kits
You probably know that speaker drivers won't last
forever because they're exposed to mechanical stress
as the woofers move air. Thus a speaker repair kit would come in
handy. I found that the most common damages include dry rotted foam
surrounds or destroyed dust caps. Of course, you wouldn't throw away
an expensive pair of loudspeakers just because
they are old. Especially because speaker enclosures typically last
much longer. Problem is though that most of these speaker models are
no longer in production.
Your first option is of course to find a compatible
replacement driver. If you're only repairing a subwoofer, this shouldn't
be too difficult. But for a 2-way or 3-way loudspeaker, crossover
design limits your choices. I would contact the manufacturer
for
advice what replacement drivers work best unless you are heavily
into loudspeaker design and know how to figure out all technical
aspects yourself.
Please
follow the manufacturer

who will help
you obtain a suitable replacement driver.
But
what if the manufacturer of your loudspeakers is out of business
or not responding? Fortunately, you can still fix
speaker drivers from Infinity, JBL, Bose or KEF! My favorite DIY
supplier
PartsExpress has come to our
rescue and offers dozens of complete repair sets.
